Every page on the Ashridge website now includes links to a range of social bookmarking websites.
Rather than just adding a particular website or webpage to the favourites or bookmarks of your particular browser on one particular computer, social bookmarks allow you to store, tag and share links across the internet. You can access your bookmarks from any computer anywhere in the world, but you can also share these links with colleagues, friends and people with similar interests.
By 'tagging' the bookmark, you are adding your own keywords to the bookmark. This makes it easier for you, and for others, to find the particular page in question. For example, Ashridge might refer to its 'programmes' but many Ashridge users refer to its 'courses' or 'training'. By adding a tag 'Leadership courses', the page would now be searchable for that term, as well as 'leadership programmes' or any other terms that Ashridge has used on the page.
As well as 'tagging' and bookmarking pages on the Ashridge website, the social bookmarking websites listed below allow you to search all their user's bookmarks (you cannot see any personal information about users) and see a list of the most popular bookmarks that correspond to your search terms... recommended by other users rather than by a search engine.
If you find a page on the Ashridge website that you find interesting and want to save for future reference or share with other people, simply click on one of these links to add to your list.
All of these social bookmarking sites are free to use but do require you to register. Once you have registered you can begin bookmarking.
Each of the sites works slightly differently so use the links below to find out which service best suits your needs. You may prefer to sign up to several services... for example to enable you to pass bookmarks easily to your friends on Facebook, but to also access your own bookmarks easily and efficiently from any computer, using Del.icio.us.
You can find out more about social bookmarking on Wikipedia.
